Halloween Ghosts in the Graveyard dessert with chocolate pudding, crushed Oreo dirt, and whipped topping ghosts. No-bake party favorite kids love decorating themselves.

80 minA Halloween classic that ranks just above costume planning for kid involvement. Crushed Oreo cookies become the graveyard dirt, chocolate pudding is the spooky base, and dollops of whipped topping piped with chocolate eyes turn into the ghosts rising up from the soil.
The whole thing comes together in a single 13×9 dish with no baking, no fuss. Crush the cookies coarsely so you get real dirt clods rather than dust. The texture matters for the visual.
Let it sit in the fridge for a full hour before decorating. The pudding firms up and the crushed cookies on top soak in just enough moisture to look damp and earthy.
Pro Tips
- Cold milk is key, warm milk won’t let instant pudding set up properly, follow the package timing
- Crush cookies in a zip-top bag with a rolling pin for the most realistic dirt texture, food processors make it too fine
- Pipe ghost eyes with melted chocolate in a sandwich bag, snip a tiny corner for control
- Stand Milano cookies upright in the dirt for tombstones, write RIP with white frosting if feeling theatrical
Variations
- Use vanilla pudding tinted green for a swamp version with gummy worms
- Add a layer of cream cheese mixed with powdered sugar for a richer middle
- Crumble brownies in place of Oreos for a fudgier dirt
