This retro pasta salad goes the sweet route. Small shell pasta tossed with canned fruit cocktail, sliced banana, chopped apple, and a cinnamon-spiked whipped topping. It’s the kind of dish that shows up at church suppers and family reunions and always gets scraped clean.

The pasta shells catch the creamy whipped topping in their curves, so every forkful carries dressing. Small shells work best here. Large ones overpower the delicate fruit pieces.

Cinnamon blended into the whipped topping is a small addition that makes a big difference. It warms up the whole salad and ties the different fruits together with a familiar, comforting spice note.

Chill this thoroughly before serving. The cold sets the whipped topping into a thicker coating that clings to the pasta and fruit instead of pooling at the bottom of the bowl.

Directions

Prepare shells according to package directions, drain.

In medium bowl, combine shells, fruit cocktail, banana and apple.

In small bowl, blend whipped topping and cinnamon.

Stir into salad mixture. Cover, chill thoroughly.

Stir gently before serving.
