1 daysThis frozen slush punch is the kind of recipe that gets passed around at every summer party. Green tea, orange juice concentrate, and frozen lemonade get mixed with your spirit of choice, then stashed in the freezer overnight until slushy and scoopable.
The green tea adds a subtle earthy note that keeps the drink from being one-note sweet, while the citrus juices bring tartness that balances the sugar and the booze. Rum, gin, or vodka all work here, so use whatever you like or have on hand.
When you’re ready to serve, scoop the slush into a glass until it’s half full and top with lemon-lime soda. The carbonation hits the icy mixture and it fizzes into something between a cocktail and a frozen lemonade stand in a glass.
Pro Tips
- Stir the mixture a couple times during the first few hours of freezing to break up ice crystals and keep it slushy, not solid
- The alcohol keeps it from freezing into a hard block, but if it does get too firm, let it sit on the counter for 10 minutes before scooping
- Make this 2 to 3 days ahead. It holds perfectly in the freezer
Variations
- Skip the alcohol for a kid-friendly version (freeze time may increase since alcohol prevents full freezing)
- Swap lemonade for frozen cranberry juice concentrate for a holiday-ready pink slush
- Use peach schnapps instead of rum for a fuzzy navel twist
