| 2 | cups | brown sugar | |
| 2 | cups | water | hot |
| 2 | tablespoons | vegetable shortening | |
| 1 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1 | teaspoon | baking soda | |
| 1 | package | raisins, seedless | |
| 1 | teaspoon | cinnamon | |
| 1 | teaspoon | cloves | |
| 3 | cups | flour, all-purpose | sifted |
| 1 | teaspoon | water | hot |
Boil together sugar, water, shortening, salt, raisins, and spices for 5 minutes.
When cold, add the flour and the soda dissolved in 1 teaspoon of hot water.
Bake in 325 degrees F. over 45 minutes.
Be sure to grease pan.
