A sugar-free dirt cake made with devil’s food cake mix, chocolate pudding, cream cheese, and crushed cookies on top. All the fun of a classic dirt cake without the added sugar.

1 hrsDirt cake is one of those desserts that never fails to get a laugh and a second helping. This sugar-free version keeps all the fun intact.
A devil’s food cake base gets topped with a thick, creamy layer made from reduced-fat cream cheese, sugar-free chocolate pudding, skim milk, and sugar-free whipped topping. Then the whole thing gets buried under a layer of crushed sugar-free dark cookies that look just like, well, dirt.
Kids go wild for it. Adults pretend they’re too grown up for it, then sneak back for more.
Kitchen Tips
- Let the cake cool completely before adding the pudding layer, otherwise it’ll melt and slide right off
- Mix the cream cheese and margarine until smooth before adding the milk and pudding mix. Lumps are hard to get out once the pudding starts thickening
- Crush the cookies in a zip-lock bag with a rolling pin for easy cleanup and even crumbs
- Chill the assembled cake for at least an hour before serving so the layers set and slice cleanly
