Want to give a gift that looks like it came from a boutique spirits shop? Start steeping this cordial now.

Fresh cranberries get coarsely chopped and mixed with sugar, light corn syrup, vodka, brandy, and water, then sealed in a glass jar to steep in a cool, dark place for at least a month.

Over those weeks, the cranberries release their color and tartness into the spirits, turning the mixture a stunning deep ruby red.

Strain it through cheesecloth, pour into pretty bottles, and you’ve got a homemade liqueur that tastes like the holidays in a glass.

Sip it straight, pour it over ice, or mix it into sparkling wine for a festive cocktail.

Pro Tips

  • Shake or stir the jar every few days during steeping to redistribute the sugar and cranberries evenly
  • Strain through dampened cheesecloth for the clearest, most jewel-like cordial
  • Start this at least a month before you need it. Patience turns good ingredients into something extraordinary
