Ten minutes and zero cooking. That’s all it takes to put this crowd-pleasing mocha punch together. Strong chilled coffee gets loaded with big scoops of both chocolate and vanilla ice cream, then crowned with a sweetened whipped cream flavored with vanilla and a whisper of almond extract.

As the ice cream melts into the coffee, the punch gets creamier and richer with every ladleful. A sprinkle of nutmeg (and cinnamon if you’re feeling festive) finishes it off.

This is the punch bowl recipe for holiday parties, bridal showers, or any gathering where you want something more exciting than a store-bought carton of eggnog.

Pro Tips

  • Chill the coffee completely. Warm coffee will melt the ice cream too fast and turn the punch thin and watery before anyone gets a glass.
  • Add the ice cream in walnut-sized chunks. Smaller pieces create more surface area for flavor mixing while still floating nicely in the bowl.
  • Whip the cream to soft peaks only. It should fold into the punch, not sit on top like a meringue. Overwhipped cream turns clumpy.

Directions

Pour chilled coffee into a punch bowl.

Add walnut-sized chunks of ice cream.

Whip cream, adding salt, sugar, almond extract and vanilla.

Whip until soft peaks form.
