1 daysFive ingredients and zero oven time. That’s all it takes to make these iconic no-bake treats that have been a holiday staple for generations.
Melt chocolate chips with margarine, let it cool just enough so it won’t melt the marshmallows, then fold in colored minis, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts. Shape it all into two fat logs, wrap in wax paper, and stash in the fridge overnight.
The next day, slice into rounds and you get those gorgeous stained-glass cross-sections that give church windows their name. Three dozen pieces from one batch means plenty for gifting, plating, and sneaking straight from the fridge.
Pro Tips
- Patience pays off. A full 24-hour chill gives the firmest, cleanest slices.
- Wet your hands slightly when shaping the logs to keep the sticky mixture from clinging to your fingers.
- Wrap the logs tightly in wax paper, twisting the ends like a candy wrapper to hold the shape while they set.
- Vary your nut choice. Pecans, walnuts, or almonds all work and change the flavor profile each time.
