1 hrsTwo ingredients. One of the most romantic desserts on the planet. You really don’t need more than that.
Fresh strawberries with stems still attached get dipped into melted chocolate bark, shaken off, and set on waxed paper to firm up. That’s the whole recipe. The magic is in the contrast: cold, juicy berry snapping through a thin shell of rich chocolate.
But here’s the showstopper move. This recipe includes instructions for drizzling melted chocolate over an inverted pie pan to create an edible chocolate basket. Fill it with your dipped berries and you’ve got a centerpiece that looks like it cost $50 from a fancy chocolatier.
Kitchen Tips
- Dry the strawberries completely before dipping. Even a drop of water on the berry will cause the chocolate to seize up and turn grainy.
- Don’t wash the stems off. They’re your handle for dipping and they make the berries look more elegant on the plate.
- Microwave in short bursts and stir between each one. Chocolate goes from melted to burned in seconds, and there’s no coming back from scorched chocolate.
- For the chocolate basket, drizzle in a tight crosshatch pattern so the structure holds together when you peel it off the foil.
Ingredients
Directions
Wash and drain strawberries.
Pat dry with paper towel. Leave stems intact.
Place half of the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl.
Microwave on high until melted (approximately 2 minutes). Sirring occasionally. Be careful not to burn!
Holding berries by the stem, dip one at a time into the chocolate.
Gently shake excess and place on waxed paper until firm.
If chocolate becomes too thick reheat for a few seconds.
Chocolate basket: cover a dish of desired shape (pie pan) with foil and spray lightly with cooking spray.
Place melted chocolate in a ziploc bag and seal.
Snip a small hole in the corner and drizzle the chocolate to create a basket.
Chill until firm. Carefully remove the basket. Place on a serving tray and fill with chocolate covered strawberries.
