40 minWhat happens when a Waldorf salad meets a Jello mold? This gorgeous hybrid, that’s what.
Cherry-flavored gelatin sets up with all the classic Waldorf players inside: crisp chopped apples, crunchy celery, and toasted walnuts (or pecans if that’s your style).
A splash of lemon juice keeps the apples bright and adds a tart counterpoint to the sweet cherry base.
Unmold it onto a bed of lettuce leaves for a retro presentation that will have everyone at the table reaching for seconds.
Kitchen Tips
- Wait until the gelatin is partially set (thick and syrupy) before folding in the apples and celery so they stay suspended throughout
- Use a firm, tart apple like Granny Smith for the best contrast against the sweet gelatin
- Lightly oil the mold or spray with cooking spray before filling for a flawless release
- This needs a full 4 to 6 hours to set; overnight is the safest bet for clean slicing
