These might be the cutest cookies you’ll ever bake with kids.

A chewy oatmeal dough gets rolled thin and cut into tree shapes (round treetops with little rectangular trunks attached).

Red cinnamon candies become the “cherries," green sugar crystals cover the leaves, and chocolate sprinkles coat the trunk.

They’re festive enough for a Presidents’ Day party, a school bake sale, or just a rainy Saturday afternoon baking project.

Makes 36 cookies, so there are plenty to share and plenty to snack on while decorating.

Kitchen Tips

  • Chill the dough for at least 2 hours; it’s too sticky to roll otherwise
  • Roll to ⅛ inch thickness on a well-floured surface for crisp, thin cookies
  • Press the cinnamon candies and sprinkles into the dough before baking so they stick
  • Use a tree-shaped cookie cutter if you have one to skip the freehand cutting
