Ground beef and minced onion get a quick sear in a screaming-hot wok, then thin-sliced cauliflower goes in with soy sauce and water to steam and simmer until tender.
A cornstarch slurry at the finish pulls everything together into a glossy, savory sauce that clings to every piece.
It’s the kind of no-fuss, one-wok meal that gets dinner on the table in 30 minutes flat with ingredients you’ve probably already got on hand.
Kitchen Tips
- Slice the cauliflower thin, about a quarter inch, so it cooks evenly and absorbs more of the sauce
- Get the wok properly hot before adding the beef so it browns and sears instead of just steaming
- Stir the cornstarch slurry right before adding it; it settles fast and you want an even thickener
- Ground pork or chicken works just as well here if you want to mix things up

Directions
Prepare ingredients.
Slice cauliflower into ¼ inch thick slices.
Place oil in wok and heat to smoking point.
Add ground beef and onion to it.
Stir fry meat until it is browned (about 3 minutes).
Add cauliflower, salt, soya sauce and ¾ cup of water.
Cover wok and cook ingredients a full 10 minutes.
Lift cover up occasionally to stir cauliflower so all of it will cook uniformly.
Stir up corn starch solution, add to mixture, stir thoroughly.
NOTE: Pork or chicken may be substituted for ground beef.
