| 1/2 | pound | turkey sausage | |
| 1 | tablespoon | olive oil | |
| 1 | medium | onion | chopped |
| 1 | large | carrot | cut in 1/4 inch thick slices |
| 1 | clove | garlic | finely chopped |
| 2 | cups | water | |
| 14 3/4 | ounces | chicken broth, low salt | |
| 15 | ounces | italian plum (roma) tomatoes | in juice |
| 2 | cups | cabbage | shredded |
| 2 | teaspoons | basil | dried, crumbled |
| 1 | teaspoon | thyme leaves | dried, crumbled |
| 1/2 | cup | orzo | |
| 1 | x | salt | to taste |
| 1 | x | black pepper | to taste |
Brown sausage in oil in large nonstick saucepan over medium-high heat until browned but not cooked through.
Remove sausage; cut into 16 pieces.
Reduce heat to medium.
Add onion, carrot and garlic to saucepan; sauté 3 minutes to soften.
Gradually add water, broth, tomatoes, cabbage, basil and thyme, breaking up tomatoes.
Simmer, covered, 15 minutes.
Add orzo and sausage; simmer, covered, 10 minutes until sausage is cooked and orzo is tender.
Season with salt and pepper.

I have cooked this sauce a million times...double and triple it...it's always good and I thank Jeff...whoever you are...does he have any more? Thanks, Bev in Houston
