This is comfort food at its most unapologetic.

Sixteen hamburger patties get layered in a 9×13 pan with slices of American cheese and onion rings, splashed with milk, and baked until the cheese is bubbly and the meat is cooked through.

It’s a no-frills, feed-the-family kind of meal that lands somewhere between a cheeseburger and a casserole. Think of it as a deconstructed burger that you eat with a fork.

Ready in about 35 minutes with almost zero prep.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use pre-formed frozen patties to save time. They work just as well as fresh here since the casserole bakes low and slow.
  • Don’t skip the milk. It creates steam that helps everything cook evenly and keeps the patties from drying out.
  • Serve with pickles, ketchup, and mustard on the side for the full burger experience.
