| 1 | cup | butter | |
| 1 | cup | vegetable shortening | |
| 2 | cups | sugar | granulated |
| 1 | cup | brown sugar, light | |
| 2/3 | cup | corn syrup, dark | |
| 6 | large | eggs | |
| 6 | ounces | chocolate unsweetened | |
| 2 | cups | flour, all-purpose | |
| 2 | cups | walnuts | coarsely broken |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | almond extract |
Butter the bottom and sides of two 8x8 inch square pans.
In a large bowl stir butter, sugars, and syrup.
Stir in the eggs, one at a time until blended.
In small saucepan, melt chocolate, stir into sugar mixture.
Add almond extract. Add flour and stir until smooth.
Add the nuts and stir until evenly distributed.
Turn into prepared pans, spread evenly.
Bake at 350 degrees F. about 40 minutes. Place on wire rack to cool.
Refrigerate uncovered until cool. Cut into bars and enjoy.
