| 3 | tablespoons | fat | |
| 4 | tablespoons | flour, all-purpose | |
| 1 1/2 | quarts | water | |
| 1 | x | salt | |
| 1 | x | black pepper | |
| 1 | each | onion | chopped |
| 1 | x | caraway seeds | |
| 1 | x | herbs | seasoning |
Heat the fat, add flour, and make a roux.
Add the chopped onion.
Add the water, and season to taste with salt, caraway seeds and other seasoning herbs (e.g. thyme, savory, marjoram).
