Ingredients

2 cups brown sugar
2 cups water cold
1 cup raisins, seedless
1/2 cup nuts optional
1/2 cup figs
1 cup butter
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
3 large eggs well beaten
3 cups flour, all-purpose
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions

Mix well and boil together for 10 minutes the first nine ingredients.

Remove and let cool thoroughly; then add eggs, flour, soda, and cream of tartar.

Bake in loaf pan 350F for about one hour.
