Ingredients

1 lb. soup beans dried
2 qts. water
2 cups milk
1 x salt and black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
3 slices bread cut in cubes

Directions

Soak the beans overnight in water to more than cover them.

Pour off the water, and cover the beans with salted fresh water, or ham broth and boil them unitl the are tender. There should be some water left in the beans.

Add the milk and simmer until it is hot.

Meanwhile, brown the butter carefully, add the bread cubes and stir them around until they are evenly coated and lightly browned.

Put the bread in the soup, pour the soup into bowl and serve hot.

Baked Beans C/P

Great basic bean recipe for bean lovers. The only thing missing in the recipe is an indication of what size of crockpot to use. The four quart one we used was a bit too small, but after adjustment of ingredients it turned out great!
