Brown sugar creates deep caramel notes while chopped nuts add satisfying crunch throughout.
The powdered sugar finish transforms simple squares into bakery-worthy treats perfect for lunchboxes or afternoon coffee breaks.
Kitchen Tips
- Don’t overbake: Pull from oven when edges are set but center still looks slightly underdone for the chewiest texture
- Nut options: Walnuts or pecans both work beautifully; toast them first for extra depth
- Room temp ingredients: Let eggs and margarine come to room temperature for smoother mixing and better rise

Comments
I sprinkle about 3/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips on top of the batter just before baking for that little extra something.
