40 minThink of this as a savory beef pie wrapped in homemade buttermilk biscuit dough, and you’re on the right track.
Browned ground beef and sautéed onions get sandwiched between two layers of tender biscuit crust, with a tangy sour cream custard and a generous blanket of sharp cheddar cheese holding it all together.
Bake it until the top turns deep golden brown, let it cool just enough to cut into squares, and watch the family fight over the corner pieces.
Chef Tips
- Use extra-sharp cheddar for the boldest flavor. Mild cheddar gets lost under the sour cream.
- Press the bottom layer of biscuit dough tightly into the pan so it doesn’t puff up and push the filling around.
- Let the casserole rest a full 10 minutes before cutting. Patience pays off with cleaner slices.
