Six ingredients and one casserole dish are all that stand between you and a bubbly, cheesy beef noodle bake that’ll have the whole house following their noses to the kitchen.

Ground beef browns with chopped onions and green pepper, then gets mixed with tomato sauce and simmered briefly. Layer that saucy meat with cooked noodles and cubes of Velveeta, repeat, and slide it into the oven.

Forty minutes later you’ve got a golden, melty casserole that stretches and pulls with every scoop. It’s the kind of no-frills, belly-filling meal that never goes out of style.

Serves 4 to 6 and pairs with nothing more than a simple green salad.

Pro Tips

  • Cube the Velveeta into small, even pieces so it melts evenly throughout the layers instead of clumping in one spot.
  • Slightly undercook the noodles before layering. They’ll finish cooking in the oven and won’t turn mushy.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes after baking. It holds together better when you scoop it.
  • For a golden crust on top, uncover the dish for the last 10 minutes of baking and add a few extra slices of cheese.
