| 2 | cups | broccoli florets | pieces |
| 1 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 3 1/2 | cups | water | |
| 1 | each | garlic clove | minced |
| 1 | tablespoon | soup, chicken, mix | |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | black pepper | |
| 1 | cup | carrots | sliced |
| 1 1/2 | cups | milk, skim | |
| 1 | each | onion | chopped |
| 1/4 | cup | flour, all-purpose | |
| 1/2 | cup | pearl barley | |
| 4 | ounces | cheddar cheese | diced |
Combine all but last 3 ingredients in 3 qt pot. Bring to boil, then simmer 15 minutes till barley is tender.
Mix flour into 1/2 c milk and add. Add rest of milk. Cook about five minutes till thickened. Remove from heat and stir in cheese. Cover and let stand 3-5 minutes.

As I perused the soda section I encountered vanilla Pepsi, cherry Pepsi, Lemon Pepsi, caffeine-free Pepsi, and diet Pepsi. EVERYTHING but regular good ole fashioned...
