Five ingredients. That’s all it takes to make a spinach side dish so creamy and savory that even the pickiest eaters at the table will go back for seconds.

Frozen spinach gets melted into butter in a hot pan, then stirred together with cream cheese and a packet of onion soup mix until everything is thick, rich, and impossibly smooth.

A shower of breadcrumbs on top gets golden and crunchy in the oven while the filling underneath stays velvety.

It’s the kind of no-fuss holiday side that pairs with everything from roast turkey to a simple grilled steak.

Pro Tips

  • Squeeze as much water as you can out of the frozen spinach before cooking. Excess moisture will make the casserole thin and soupy.
  • Cut the cream cheese into chunks before adding it to the pan so it melts evenly without clumping.
  • Breadcrumbs toasted in a little extra butter before sprinkling on top will give you an even crunchier, more golden crust.
