A Cajun-style homemade beef seasoning blend with paprika, garlic powder, file powder, and bay leaf. Mix it once, jar it up, and season steaks, roasts, and stews all month long.

5 minCher, put down that store-bought seasoning packet and listen up.
This homemade Cajun-style beef seasoning blend puts anything off the grocery shelf to shame, and it takes about five minutes to throw together.
Paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, white and black pepper, file powder, ground bay leaf, dry mustard, and sweet basil come together in a jar that will become your go-to for steaks, roasts, burgers, and stews.
It is salty enough on its own, so skip any extra salt when you use it.
Chef Tips
- Store the mix in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. It keeps its potency for months in a cool, dark cabinet.
- Label the jar. It sounds obvious, but a mystery spice blend in the back of the pantry helps nobody.
- Start with about a teaspoon per pound of meat and adjust from there. The salt content is built in, so taste before adding more.
- This blend leans Cajun thanks to the file powder and peppers, but it works on just about any protein you throw at it.

Directions
Mix all ingredients together well.
Store tightly covered in a glass jar for use as needed.
This is an excellent seasoning for beef dishes.
Use as you would any seasoning mix, and do not add extra salt to the dish.
Lagniappe: This seasoning mix lends itself to beef, but you may use it as you like.
(Be sure to label the jar so you won’t forget what it is!) About 4 calories per teaspoon.
