Salsa cruda means raw salsa, and that’s exactly what makes this one sing.
Every ingredient is fresh, hand-chopped, and tossed together in a bowl: ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, sharp red onion, spicy jalapeno, and crisp green bell pepper.
A pinch of sugar balances the acidity of the tomatoes while the flavors mingle during a one-hour rest.
Scoop it up with tortilla chips, spoon it over grilled fish, or pile it onto tacos.
Kitchen Tips
- Use a nonaluminum bowl for resting. Aluminum can react with the acid in the tomatoes and jalapenos, giving the salsa a metallic taste.
- The one-hour rest is worth the wait. That’s when the juices mingle and the flavors really come alive.
- Dice everything to a similar size for the best texture in every bite.
