| 1/4 | teaspoon | baking powder | |
| 1 1/2 | teaspoons | baking soda | |
| 1 1/2 | teaspoons | salt | |
| 3/4 | teaspoon | cinnamon | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | cloves | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | allspice | |
| 1/2 | cup | vegetable shortening | soft |
| 1/2 | cup | water | |
| 1/2 | cup | walnuts | chopped |
| 1 1/2 | cups | applesauce | |
| 1 | each | egg | |
| White butter frosting | |||
| 3 | cups | powdered sugar | sifted |
| 1/3 | cup | vegetable shortening | |
| 3 | teaspoons | milk | |
| 1 1/2 | teaspoons | vanilla extract | |
Grease and flour 13x9 inch pan.
Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.
Add shortening, water, and nuts.
Beat 2 minutes, and add applesauce and egg. Beat 2 more minutes.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake in 350 degrees F. oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
Frost with White Butter Frosting when cool.
For the frosting, mix all ingredients together until smooth.

We made this recipe today, and we went to a kitchen store to buy the pastry bags, and they were really helpful, the stuffing of the eggs were just beautiful and tasty, and these deviled eggs were pretty handy, it is a wonderful recipe for a snack of the party.
