To sweet.. need to reduce sugar

Wally Swanson

use unsweetened applesauce and only add 1/2 cup of sugar. Mine came out delicious

Sooo delicious. Thank you for the recipe! I put an empty baking sheet on the rack below the pie, just in case. I'm glad I did because it overflowed some water/butter and the baking sheet caught it.

Do you put a top crust on this

happyzhangbo

No, it doesn't need a top crust.

I’ve tried regular unsweetened applesauce and chunky style unsweetened applesauce. Chunky works better. I also add a dash of cardamom.

A dash of cardamom sounds like a great touch!

My mom used to make this for me when I would come home from school. Now at 67, I can enjoy my childhood once again! Thanks, for the memory.

Does this recipe originate from the sixties? I’m actually making this right now. Only ingredient I forgot was nutmeg. Cardamom sounds divine.

A for the Gamble.

Phenomenal pie. I love it. I bribed three of my apple hating family into trying some and ended up with clean plates and serving them seconds. Next time I'll reduce the sugar slightly.

SweetSue

I had some over ripe plums and pears, so I added them to some homemade applesauce. I also used maple sugar instead of white sugar and unsalted butter. I also did not have an egg! (I halved the recipe)so I used 1 Tbs. flax meal mixed with 3Tbs. orange, peach mango juice

Wally Swanson

Sweet Sue....you totally changed the recipe! Did it even taste like applesauce pie with all the extras you put in it?

Melissa

I make and can my own applesauce so I it already has the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. This should be so easy. But I am putting a top on it. That’s what the old aunts do with theirs

What kind of crust is used? Thanks!
