This lighter stuffing swaps white bread for nutty brown rice cooked in apple juice, cutting fat while adding whole grain nutrition.

Diced apples, raisins, and toasted almonds bring sweet-savory balance, while poultry seasoning and thyme provide traditional Thanksgiving flavor.

Rice bran adds extra fiber without changing taste.

Use it to stuff your turkey or bake it separately as a casserole for easier serving and crispy edges.

Pro Tips

  • Cook rice in apple juice: This infuses subtle fruit flavor throughout the grain
  • Toast almonds first: Five minutes in a dry pan deepens nutty flavor
  • Keep vegetables crisp: Don’t overcook; they should have bite
  • Make ahead option: Prepare completely, refrigerate, warm before serving

Variations

  • Add dried cranberries along with raisins for tart pops
  • Use wild rice blend for more textured, earthy flavor
  • Stir in chopped fresh sage for herbal brightness
