40 minThis ridiculously simple dessert earns its name: you literally dump ingredients into a pan and let the oven do the work.
Fruit (canned, fresh, whatever you have) goes in first, dry cake mix sprinkles over top, then butter dots across everything before it all bakes into something that tastes way more complicated than three ingredients have any right to be.
The cake mix transforms into a crispy, crumbly topping with soft cake underneath while the fruit bubbles up around the edges.
Serve warm with ice cream and accept the compliments you barely earned.
Kitchen Tips
- Leave some juice: A bit of liquid from canned fruit helps the bottom stay moist and bubbly
- Don’t stir: Seriously, just dump and go; mixing ruins the magic layering effect
- Cover corners well: Use a spoon to get dry mix into edges so you don’t have bare spots
- Any fruit works: Cherry pie filling, canned peaches, fresh berries, apple slices, literally anything
Variations
- Use chocolate cake mix with cherry pie filling for Black Forest dump cake
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts between the fruit and cake mix for crunch
- Try lemon cake mix with blueberries for bright, tangy summer vibes
Ingredients
Directions
- (pie filling, canned fruit, or enough fresh fruit to cover the bottom of the pan nicely) Pour fruit into the bottom of and 8×8 inch pan.
Sprinkle cake mix on to p of fruit (I usually use a small spoon to cover all the corners well) and then cut and place small pats of butter over the top of the cake mix.
Bake at 350 u ntil golden brown.
For a 13 x 9 pan I just double the recipe.
Notes: I have fou nd if you leave a small amount of juice from the canned fruit in the pan, it he lps make a nicer crust and juicer fil ling.
I have made this with every fruit imaginable and it has never turned out bad! from the Frozen Assets List
