ABC Brownies

Blond brownies with brown sugar and butter base topped with almonds and chocolate chips: butterscotch-flavored bars baked until golden, named for the A-B-C toppings.

35 minMelt butter with brown sugar, bring it to a boil, then cool slightly before rapidly stirring in eggs so they don’t scramble.
Add vanilla, flour, and baking powder, spread into a greased pan, and shower the top with chopped almonds and chocolate chips.
Bake at 375 degrees for twenty minutes until golden and set.
The name comes from the toppings: A for almonds, B for butterscotch-flavored blond brownie base, C for chocolate chips.
Makes sixteen chewy, nutty squares.

- Cool brown sugar mixture 5-10 minutes before adding eggs to prevent cooking them
- Stir eggs in rapidly once mixture has cooled for proper incorporation
- Sprinkle almonds and chocolate chips on top before baking for crunchy topping

Melt butter in saucepan.
Stir in brown sugar. Bring to a boil; turn off heat.
Cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Rapidly stir in eggs, being careful not to cook them. Add vanilla.
In bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
Stir into sugar-egg mix.
Pour into a greased 8” square pan.
Sprinkle with almonds and chocolate chips.
Bake at 375℉ (190℃) for 20 minutes.
Makes 16 brownies.
