Ingredients

Sift together
1 2/3 cups flour, all-purpose
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
Add
1/2 cup butter softened
2/3 cup milk
Beat for two minutes and add
3 large egg whites unbeaten
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
Beat two minutes then blend in
1/2 cup walnuts grated
Checkerboard frosting
1 tablespoon milk warm
2 tablespoons butter melted
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1 large egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Beat until creamy and add to 1/3 of the frosting
1 ounce chocolate melted, to taste
1 tablespoon milk

Directions

The rest leave plain.

Follow the directions for mixing cake.

Pour into a well greasedand lightly floured 8 x 8 x 2 pan.

Bake 350 40-50 minutes.

Cool follow the directions for putting together.

This is a simple cake that looks fancy.

All you do is cut the nut loaf cake into four squares.

You frost with white frosting (2) and the other 2 with chocolate--Then arrange them checkerboard fashion and sprinkle nuts over the top.

It is a quick mix variation.
