Every year, individuals everywhere create New Year’s resolutions they hope to keep. Most of them are broken within weeks while one or two may last as long as a few months.

The reason for this could be loss of motivation. When New Year’s Day does come around, people get excited and start telling their friends and family about what resolutions they’re going to make.

That excitement sparks motivation for the following couple weeks but after that, the promises are forgotten because no one really cares anymore.

One popular resolution is eating healthier. Some people try to start eating healthy, but don’t know where to start from. Eating healthier doesn’t mean you have to become a vegetarian.

You just have to watch what you eat. For the new year of 2008, here are some resolutions that are beneficial and will help you impress your friends.

Base your meals on starchy foods, like potatoes, bread and pasta. Most people think starchy foods are bad for you because they’re fattening, but that’s not entirely true. The wholegrain varieties are actually really good for your health.

The foods themselves are not bad, it’s what you serve with them. Avoid using creamy sauces for pasta, use as little butter as you can when eating bread and try to not add a lot of full-fat cheese to your baked potato.

Cut down on foods with a lot of fat. We all like rich food, but that doesn’t mean you have to have it everyday. Try avoiding foods like pies, sausages, butter, cheese, cakes, biscuits and doughnuts.

You should also be aware of the different types of fat out there. Saturated Fats, found in sausage, cakes and other food with lard, can raise blood cholesterol levels and cause heart disease.

Hydrogenated Fat, found in pastries, can also affect your lifestyle or diet because they actually contain Trans Fats, which can raise cholesterol levels and increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
