When most people think of Kiwifruit, they start to dream about a tropical paradise. A place where the palm trees sway, the beach boys play and sunscreen is a necessity.

But when you look at the facts, the delicious fruit actually doesn’t come from a private getaway. Instead, the kiwifruit is native to southern China.

In North America and Europe, most people simply refer to the fruit as “kiwi”, which also happens to be the same name of an indigenous bird from New Zealand.

The original name for the scrumptious fruit was “Chinese Gooseberry”, but after marking problems involving imports and tariffs, “kiwifruit” became the official name.

When it comes to exporting the fruit for the market, Italy has been the biggest producer so far. But China still produces the fruit, despite the fact that it only comes from certain places.

When it comes to the cooking world, the kiwifruit has not disappointed. As an excellent source of vitamin c and fiber, the kiwifruit can be used in any which way you want.

Instead of just eating it like any other fruit, you can use its flavor as a meat tenderizer or an accompaniment to ham. The tangy fruit can also be eaten when mixed with a salad, dessert or on top of a fruit tart.

When it comes to storage, kiwifruits usually ripens in three to five days and can be refrigerated in a plastic bag for 2-3 weeks.

If you trying to figure out how to tell a good kiwifruit from a bad one at the grocery store or supermarket, just make sure it doesn’t have a lot of soft spots.

So instead of imagining being on a tropical island, add a new look to your Christmas dinner this year with this delicious winter fruit that is sure to add some adventure to your life, without the sunscreen.
